From the beginning, and throughout the more than 33 years of his career in home construction, Don Wetherington, owner and founder of Wetherington Builders, has maintained a commitment not only to providing unique and magnificent custom homes, but also to establishing and fostering relationships with his clients. As a company founded on maintaining tradition, making efforts to preserve the environment was a natural progression for the company.

Wetherington Builders was founded in 1992, after Don had spent many years working as an independent subcontractor and as the general contractor for a large developer. He has been building homes in Central Florida, specializing in Osceola County, since 1975.

Don has supervised and built over 1,650 homes from entry-level homes to multi-story luxurious designs. Although he has achieved great success in the building industry, Don is most proud of the relationships he has established throughout the years.

The philosophy of Wetherington Builders is best described in this poem written by Don Wetherington:

“The Heart of the Home is the Family,
The Heart of the House is the Builder,
The Heart of the Builder is the Difference."

The poem, in just a few words, directly reflects the company's philosophy.

Don believes in the importance of old-fashioned family values. In fact, Wetherington Builders is a family-owned and operated company. Don is proud to work with his two daughters, his son and a superintendent, whom Don has known since he was in little league.

Throughout the years Don has also established great relationships with his subcontractors. he's proud of the fact that he began with a shovel in his hand and has worked from the ground up. The experience he gained over the years provided him with a thorough understanding of the challenges involved in the process of home building.

Wetherington Builders' definition of custom is "careful attention to the needs and desires of the family." Don takes a personal approach in working with each client to help them create exactly what they're looking for in a home. We sit down with our client and literally design the house together. Our draftsman draws out the design and our decorator adds suggestions. It's a really great team effort. The result is that our client has a home that they are proud of because they had a hand in designing it themselves.

Another advantage of this design/build philosophy is the builder's personal guidance while designing the home to help the client stay within their budget and maintain cost effectiveness.

We truly enjoy creating each client's new home and take great pride in the end result.

Wetherington will design/build any style of home that a client desires: Traditional, Victorian, Folk Victorian, Greek revival and Craftsman style.

Wetherington Builders will meet requests to design and build homes in Central Florida, and in 2002 Don announced that he had been invited to bring the Wetherington Builders tradition of building to the Town of Harmony.

Wetherington Builders believes that all families should have the opportunity to have the home of their dreams in the neighborhood of their dreams. We see Harmony as a place where families can live and play and be nurtured by the love and respect of nature for generations to come.

Don Wetherington gives back to the industry. After serving on the Home Builders Association Board of Directors, he was elected the 2006 Treasurer, 2007 Vice President, and the 2008 President. Serving in these capacities, Don fully supported the creation of the Green Building Committee (GBC) of HBA, as well as a Commercial Building Council. He has served several years as a Board of Director for both the Florida Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.

Wetherington Builders was also proud to have been selected as the 2007 Builder of the Year.

In addition, Wetherington Builders has donated its services to build an “Education House.” The community of Harmony donated a lot for the location of the home and other members of HBA and the community are contributing to the home. When completed, this home will be sold with proceeds benefiting A Gift For Teaching, which provides school supplies to teachers for needy children.

The business philosophy and sincerity of Don Wetherington have earned him and his family great respect in the building industry and the community.

We're not selling houses, we're selling relationships. If people are willing to take the time to sit down and talk with us, I think they will see very quickly that it's not hype, it's sincere. Our philosophy is our backbone, because everything else is subject to change.
